Bias against Islam stems from ignorance

Some people in the West and the Philippines have misconceptions about Islam because of ignorance or hypocrisy. The precepts on man’s life, liberty, honor and property are as old as our religion. Islamic jurisprudence on the equal protection law goes back to the case of Umar Ibn Al-Khattab, the third Caliph of Islam, who famously showed by example how the concepts of the supremacy of law and independence of the court should be applied. He had filed a lawsuit against a Jew. Both Umar and the Jew presented themselves before a Qari who, upon seeing the Caliph, stood up to show his respect. The next day, Umar ordered the dismissal of the Qari.
